RESOURCES
We at Pretiosum Ventures are extremely saddened by the collapse of SVB, a truly sad moment for the tech ecosystem.
Good news, in the UK HSBC has bought Silicon Valley Bank UK in a rescue deal confirmed this morning in a statement from the UK Treasury. All customers will be able to "access their deposits and banking services as normal from today" confirms the Treasury.

SVB Recap: “The Great Reset” (Myth of Money)
The Great Reset is a concept that advocates for us to stop trusting centralized institutions with things that matter to us. After all, these institutions are run by people who are not necessarily better or smarter than us, but they make all the decisions AND the mistakes for us.
2023: The Year of Web3 for Enterprise (Nasdaq)
This industry will not be defined by speculative booms and busts but instead by what it is built on: revolutionary technology that will eventually touch all of our corporations, governments and individual lives. During this downturn, massive leaps are being made in the quality of the technology. Real world use cases that will define it for the average person are emerging.
Sizing the Web3 B2B Software Market (Tomas Tunguz)
While possible to build a business selling exclusively to web3 companies, the bigger market today is selling web3 technologies to web2 companies. Solutions in gaming, marketing, & financial services where decentralized databases or virtual wallets solve a core business need.
OPINION
Successfully building something unique requires knowing what yields results, what doesn’t, what and how to measure it.
If you want to know which startup metrics you should be tracking, ask yourself: What’s my business model? Like in sport, it is not as important how quickly you run if you are a swimmer? The vertical in which you operate, whether that’s AI or FinTech is irrelevant at this stage. First, define how you charge your users and that will define crucial for your startup.
To name a few business models:
☁️ Pay-per-use: price depends on usage (AWS)
💵 Marketplace: facilitating a transaction between buyer and seller (AirBnB)
🔄 SaaS: subscription / recurring revenue (Slack)
💸 Enterprise: solutions for large companies (DataBricks)
📱Subscription: recurring revenue but in a consumer vertical (Spotify)
🧲 Ad-based: access to free service to run ads for users (Twitter)
It is counterproductive to consider every metric, instead identify your business model and only measure the key metrics that diagnose the current state of your business and can predict the future.
